Fine-art Giclée print; Hahnemüle Photorag 308gsm; Matt finish
Fragments of large iridescent glass bottles in jar, c. 18th-19th century
These glass fragments were collected from the River Thames foreshore.
The rainbow iridescence is caused by the acidic river water leaching alkali salts from the glass, forming fine, flaky layers on its surface that reflect light with a prism effect.
Items kindly loaned by London mudlark Anna Borzello, @foreshoreseashore
